17.11.2021

The Chamber hosted a meeting between the President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Sergei Katyrin and the appointed Ambassador of Ecuador to Russia Juan Fernando Holguin Flores. The meeting was attended by the vice-president of the Chamber Vladimir Padalko and the head of the Trade Representation of Ecuador in Russia Ricardo Falla Leon.

Sergey Katyrin noted that it is through the Embassy that the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation is closely working with the business of Ecuador. No doubt this practice will continue. “Russia and Ecuador have great potential in the development of economic cooperation. Despite the fact that this year the trade turnover between the countries increased by more than 20% compared to 2020, the potential of relations is far from being exhausted. With certain efforts, it can grow quite seriously,” stressed the head of the Chamber.

Sergey Katyrin has identified a number of priority tasks for enhancing further cooperation.

First, it is worth focusing on the information sphere. The Chamber is interested for Russian entrepreneurs to learn more about Ecuador, the conditions for doing business in the country, investment projects that are planned to be implemented with the involvement of foreign investors, in this case, Russian.

Secondly, Sergey Katyrin drew attention to the calendar of exhibitions held by a subsidiary of the Chamber - the largest exhibition company AO Expocentre. About 100 international exhibitions are held on its territory every year.

Ambassador Juan Fernando Holguin Flores said that one of the key tasks set before him by the President of Ecuador is the further strengthening of trade relations between our countries, as well as the development of investment cooperation. Trade ties with Russia are very important for Ecuador. For example, the Russian Federation is the main market for the export of bananas. The presence of Ecuadorian products in the Russian flower market is significant. About 60% of roses in Russia come from Ecuador. Also, a quarter of the shrimp market in the Russian Federation is of Ecuadorian origin.

Juan Fernando Holguin Flores added that a number of visits (at the highest and highest level) to the Russian Federation are being prepared. In April 2022, Minister of Foreign Trade, Production and Fisheries Julio Jose Prado plans to visit Russia with a delegation of Ecuadorian entrepreneurs.

Ambassador informed that President of the Republic of Ecuador Guillermo Lasso expressed an interest in visiting Russia. He plans to come with an even larger delegation of businessmen. The approximate date of the visit of the head of state is late April - early May 2022.
