A special place in the economic relations of Russia with foreign countries in the new geopolitical conditions is given to the countries of the Persian Gulf, and one of these countries is the Sultanate of Oman. This was stated on November 3 by Alexei Rubtsov, chairman of the Russian-Omani Business Council, in his opening speech at a round table meeting on Russian-Omani trade and economic cooperation.

According to Alexei Rubtsov, Oman demonstrates positive neutrality, within which it pursues a strategically balanced policy: “The coordinated participation of Russia and Oman in the work of the High-Level Committee for the Control of Oil Production, whose task is to monitor the agreement on optimizing oil production by non-OPEC countries”.

The meeting was chaired by Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation Vladimir Padalko, who noted the importance of developing business relations between Russia and Oman. The oil and gas industry is the backbone of Oman's economy, with oil and gas revenues accounting for 75 percent of export earnings and 40 percent of GDP. The trade turnover between our countries is about 170 million dollars. The main articles of Russian exports are foodstuffs, ferrous metals, rolled metal products, and timber.

Oman is interested in the transfer of Russian technologies, the creation of various industries using the free economic zone of Oman, the possibility of co-financing projects and the further export of manufactured products: as well as the new technologies of geological and technical measures used in Russia, which can be applied in the oil fields of Oman,” said Alexei Rubtsov.

The Russian-Omani Business Council will provide the necessary assistance in the development of business contacts and mutually beneficial cooperation between Russian and Omani entrepreneurs, the Chairman of the Council said, noting that its work will be aimed at expanding the dialogue between business representatives of the two countries.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Director of the Department for the Development of Bilateral Cooperation of the Ministry of Economic Development Anton Razlivaev, Director of the All-Russian Research Market Institute, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Council for Foreign Economic Affairs Andrey Spartak, Managing Director of RUSNANO Corporation Vladimir Konovalov.

Evgeniy Shenkman, chief geologist of Zarubezhgeologiya, presented his proposals on conducting geological exploration in Oman, who noted the possibility of joint specialized prospecting and prospecting and evaluation work on placer and ore industrial facilities in the northeast of the Sultanate of Oman for platinoids and gold, as well as conducting technological tests in deposits of quartz sand.
