The need to find new opportunities in cooperation with Latin American countries was announced on May 30 by Alexander Kopkov, Director of the Foreign Relations Department of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, at a meeting with the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Development of Peru-Russia, Cesar Ressa Vega, and a delegation of businessmen from the Republic of Peru.

Alexander Kopkov expressed the opinion that tectonic changes in world politics open up new opportunities for cooperation with the countries of Latin America and Peru, in particular, and this direction can be given a new impetus. He also noted the interest of Russian entrepreneurs in finding new markets. A. Kopkov said that exports from Russia to Peru are growing, despite the overall decline in trade volumes. In order to fully unlock the potential of mutual trade, it is necessary, first of all, to establish information exchange and learn more about the markets of Peru, A. Kopkov said.

And on systemic issues, use the mechanisms of the intergovernmental commission, he noted. According to the head of the Department of External Relations of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, there is a gap in terms of tourism, where there are considerable niches and prospects, especially given the attractiveness of Peru's natural and historical sites, such as Mount Machu Picchu, Lake Titicaca or monuments of the ancient Inca civilization.

Cesar Ressa Vega, President of the Peru-Russia Chamber of Commerce and Industry Development, spoke about the practical activities of his business association and its achievements. In particular, he said that over the past 10 years, assistance has been provided to Russian businesses to enter the market of Peru and, first of all, to KAMAZ. Peru is the main producer of copper and supplies this material to Russian wire producers, Cesar Ressa Vega informed. He also said that today goods such as cocoa and carmine food colorings, which are used in the dairy industry, are supplied from Peru to Russia. “We help Russian enterprises that export wood-based panels,” said the President of the Chamber, who received his higher education in Russia, at the Peoples' Friendship University.

Olinda Yaringaño, vice-president for external relations of the Chamber of Peru-Russia, expressed the opinion that "no business can be built without trust between representatives of the business community." She noted the interest in Russia to the supply of food products from Peru and, in particular, to the Peruvian poppy. Peru would like to supply the strong national drink pisco to Russia and import Russian vodka, she said. Olinda Yaringaño drew attention to the great interest in Russian higher education that exists in Peru. And she expressed satisfaction that the Russian government provides scholarships for students from the Republic of Peru.

Tatyana Mashkova, Director General of the National Committee for the Promotion of Economic Cooperation with Latin American Countries (NC CESLA), who moderated the meeting, noted that the main specialists required for the development of mutual trade are specialists in the field of logistics and the banking sector.

Representatives of the Russian and Peruvian businesses who participated in the meeting, in particular, Maxim Khmara, director of project transportation at Polar-Trans, presented the possibilities for developing transportation from Peru to Russia, since the port of Lima is one of the most important logistics hubs in Latin America. Guests from Peru noted the great potential in the development of gastronomic tourism.

The Peru-Russia Chamber of Commerce and Industry Development was established on October 14, 2013 by a group of Peruvian entrepreneurs who have been living in Russia for over 25 years. The main task of the chamber is the active and consistent promotion of the interests of representatives of the business circles of Russia and Peru.
