On August 23, President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Sergey Katyrin took part in the plenary session of the BRICS summit in Johannesburg.

During it, the chairmen of the national parts of the BRICS Business Council handed over the annual report of the Council to the heads of official delegations of the BRICS countries. Sergei Katyrin, who heads the Russian part, handed over the document to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Chinese President Xi Jinping, South African President Cyril Ramaposa, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke during the plenary session. Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the participants via video conference.

All BRICS countries supported the expansion of the community, believing that only cooperation will solve the main world problems: poverty, inequality, slow development. At the same time, the leaders of the state called the use of global organizations and financial instruments to put pressure on developing countries unacceptable.

The key priorities of the "five" are the development and accessibility of digital platforms within the BRICS, the exchange of cultural traditions and the reform of global financial instruments.
The unification summit takes place from 22 to 24 August. Its main theme is "BRICS and Africa - a partnership for accelerated growth, sustainable development and inclusive multilateralism". The day before, the BRICS Business Forum was held with the participation of the heads of state of the association.
