The presentation of the investment potential of the Sughd region of the Republic of Tajikistan took place on December 5 at the Congress Center of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Moscow.

Handicrafts, textile products from the region, branded products and drinks were presented at the exhibit. “Colleagues showed the opportunities that Tajik producers have. Those who come to the exhibition will be able to decide on the areas of cooperation,” said Sergei Katyrin, President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The head of the Chamber, opening the business part of the program, noted that holding presentations of Russian regions at the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry has proven its effectiveness. Sughd region became the first among foreign regions.

Sergey Katyrin recalled that a delegation of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry visited the Sughd region in 2021. Then we held a number of business meetings with Tajik entrepreneurs, visited industrial enterprises, historical and cultural sites. It was from this visit that close cooperation began, he noted.

“The countries have established good ties in all areas, but as the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, we are primarily interested in trade and economic ties and communication between our entrepreneurs. I can say that everything is growing. Russia remains Tajikistan's main trading partner. More than 300 enterprises with Russian capital operate in the Republic,” said the President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The tools of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in particular, the Russian-Tajik Business Council, whose meeting took place as part of the presentation, make their contribution to the development of trade and economic relations.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Russian Federation, Davlatshokh Gulmakhmadzoda, in his speech noted the role of interregional interaction in deepening cooperation, and also assessed the possibilities of creating joint innovative technological enterprises.

Alexander Bashkin, a member of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Building, stated that relations between countries have a steady dynamic of “both increasing the number and expanding the various spectrums of these relations,” which is facilitated, among other things, by the format of the interparliamentary commission.

Chairman of the Sughd region Rajabboy Akhmadzoda thanked the head of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry for his contribution to organizing the event. He said that the sustainable development of the Republic of Tajikistan was ensured thanks to the implementation of four main strategic goals: ensuring energy independence, breaking the communication impasse, food security and accelerated industrialization of the country.

During the presentation, participants were shown a video about the Sughd region. The attendees  also asked questions in the so-called “open microphone” format.

The moderator was Vice President of the Chamber Vladimir Padalko.
