On April 22 President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Sergei Katyrin, who is on business-mission to Nepal, held working meetings in Katmandu with Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport of Nepal Raghubir Mahaseth and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nepal Narayan Kaji Shrestha.

The head of the Russian Chamber recalled that a year ago his institution hosted a delegation from Nepal led by the Chairman of the National Assembly Ganesh Prasad Timilsina. The meeting showed that both sides have an interest in further developing cooperation. According to him, the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry contributes to this in every possible way, using all its resources.

“The volumes of Russian-Nepalese trade are still small - no more than $50 million in recent years, and do not correspond to our potential. The main reason hindering the development of business ties between our countries, in our opinion, is the lack of information among companies and enterprises, especially small and medium-sized ones, about real commercial and investment opportunities in both countries, as well as about the rules and conditions of work in the respective markets” , explained the head of the Russian Chamber.

Prominent representatives of the Russian business elite interested in working with Nepal in the fields of finance, hydropower, food, agricultural raw materials, mechanical engineering and the chemical industry were invited to the business mission. “I hope these meetings will bear fruit,” noted Sergei Katyrin.

The delegation from the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry includes Vice President of the Chamber Vladimir Padalko.

In general, the business mission brought together about 20 representatives of large companies representing Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and Lipetsk, as well as heads of the territorial chambers of commerce and industry of these regions. The main purpose of the visit is to strengthen relations with Nepalese business associations, facilitate the establishment of direct contacts between domestic businesses and the Nepalese business community, as well as familiarize themselves with new cooperation opportunities.
