On July 18, at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, a meeting was held between the Vice President of the Chamber, Vladimir Padalko, and the Chairman of the General Union of Chambers of Commerce of Libya, Mohamed Rayed.

During the meeting, a cooperation agreement was signed between the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the General Union of Libyan Chambers of Commerce (GSCC).

In his opening remarks, Vice President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vladimir Padalko expressed confidence in the possibility of increasing trade turnover with Libya, which ranks 5th among Russia’s trading partners in Africa. “We have the opportunity to provide entrepreneurs with information so that they can work better,” said Vladimir Padalko. He recalled that on May 16, 2024, on the sidelines of Kazanforum 2024, bilateral meetings of the leadership of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry with the Libyan delegation took place, during which an agreement was reached to sign a cooperation agreement between the Chambers.

Mohammed Rayed noted that Russian-Libyan relations have a long history and the Libyan delegation arrived in Moscow to give them a new impetus. According to him, there are many companies in Russia that could help in the revival of Libya, acting as executors or investors. The Chairman of the Libyan GSTP emphasized the importance of the return of Russian specialists to this country to facilities that were created with the technical assistance of the USSR, including in railway transport. He proposed organizing a visit of representatives of Russian companies to Libya.

The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Committee for Cooperation with African Countries (AFROCOM), Igor Morozov.
