Speaking in Vladivostok Sergey Katyrin Evaluated as Developing Dynamically Russian Cooperation with ASEAN

Cooperation between Russia and ASEAN countries remains relevant and is developing dynamically, said Sergey Katyrin, President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, speaking at the Russia-ASEAN Business Dialogue session at the IX Eastern Economic Forum (EEF-2024) on September 4.
“Our trade relations have been developing quite well and dynamically lately. Over the past year, our trade turnover grew by 14.5%, to $22 billion. But if you look at the final figure, it is, of course, very modest compared to some other partners of ASEAN countries,” he said.
The President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry also noted that in the near future, work will be done together with partners to create a new interaction plan.
“The plan that was approved is designed for 2021-2025. And today, of course, we must create a foundation for the future, create the prerequisites for creating a new plan that will work from 2025 onwards,” concluded Sergey Katyrin.
The head of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry indicated that Russia is interested in increasing the exchange of experience between ASEAN countries, including in the fields of education, healthcare and tourism.
"Our interest is that our partners, wherever they are, do not have any problems with their interaction with Russia. We need to look for solutions. The first issue is the problem of mutual settlements. Another problem that is artificially created is transport, logistics, and cargo delivery," he added.
According to the Minister for Hotel and Tourism Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Thet Thet Khaine, the partner parties need to develop joint projects to ensure the prosperity of cooperation in the future.
"It is also important to strengthen relations between our countries. This is a key aspect. It is necessary to identify key areas of cooperation: for example, fisheries, agriculture, technology development, renewable energy sources. This is how we can recreate additional synergies that will allow the Russian Far East and ASEAN to jointly develop technologies such as biotech, building a digital economy that will contribute to the creation of jobs in both regions,” the minister emphasized.
Goar Barseghyan, a member of the board (minister) for industry and agro-industrial complex of the Eurasian Economic Commission, spoke about the interaction of the EAEU with the ASEAN countries.
Also speaking during the session were Deputy General Director for Project Engineering, Sustainable Development and International Cooperation of PJSC RusHydro Sergey Machekhin, founder and chairman of the board of directors of JSC Hoa Binh Construction Group Le Viet Hai, vice president for the linear logistics division of FESCO German Maslov, director for the development of the foreign network of JSC Russian Export Center Dmitry Prokhorenko, co-founder and secretary general of the International Association of Digital Economies (IDEA), head of Digital Pilipinas Amor Maclang.
The event was moderated by the Executive Director of the Russia-ASEAN Business Council, Daniyar Akkaziyev.
