On November 20, Vladimir Padalko, Vice President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, took part in a meeting with an Indian delegation headed by Rajiv Saxena, Secretary of the Ministry of Textile Industry. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Russian Union of Entrepreneurs of Textile & Light Industry (Soyuzlegprom), the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), and major Indian textile manufacturers.
In his opening remarks, Vladimir Padalko noted the important role of light industry, in particular textile industry, in the development of Russian-Indian business relations. According to him, there is a great potential for further expansion of cooperation in this sphere. Russian businessmen expressed their readiness to deepen cooperation with Indian partners.
In his welcoming speech, Rajiv Saxena informed that the Indian textile industry is interested in expanding its presence in the Russian market. He compared the trade turnover of the industry with that of Turkey: India’s textile imports to the Russian Federation are $100 million, while Turkey’s imports are $2.3 billion. He also invited interested Russian entrepreneurs to participate in Bharat Tex 2025, one of the largest textile exhibitions in India.
Kumar Manish, Deputy Chairman of the Commission of the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry for Foreign Economic Cooperation with Partners in the Republic of India, in his speech drew attention to the problems of mutual settlements and payment guarantees. He emphasized that their solution could fully develop the potential of Russia-India cooperation. He also mentioned the problem of certification of Indian products for the Russian market.
Vasily Gushchin, Deputy President of the Russian Union of Entrepreneurs of Textile & Light Industry, in his speech noted the readiness of Soyuzlegprom to cooperate with Indian entrepreneurs, especially in the area of participation in Russian textile exhibitions. In addition, according to Vasily Gushchin, Soyuzlegprom has the capacity to organize profile events, which can potentially expand the range of products made by foreign manufacturers, as well as to provide exhibition space for foreign participants.
