On November 28, 2024, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation hosted a meeting with an extended delegation of the Republic of Tunisia. The event was co-organized by the Russian-Tunisian Business Council.
Sergey Katyrin, President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, welcomed the participants. He noted that trade and economic relations between Russia and Tunisia are actively developing today.
“Over the past two years, trade turnover between our countries has increased by more than 60%. The volume of mutual trade has reached $2 billion. There are reasons to believe that it will continue to show positive dynamics. We have the potential to expand cooperation, including positive developments in the agro-industrial complex and tourism,” the President of the Chamber said.
Sergey Katyrin emphasized that it is necessary to establish an information exchange between representatives of business circles of both countries, as well as to promote mutual participation of business in congresses and exhibitions. According to him, the dialogue of businessmen of Russia and Tunisia at the regional level is no less important.
Samir Abid, Minister of Trade and Export Development of the Republic of Tunisia, said he was very pleased to come to Moscow to participate in events aimed at exchanging views and expanding bilateral trade and economic ties between the business communities of the two countries.
“The dynamics of our relations indicate that Russia and Tunisia should join hands to strengthen cooperation,” he concluded. The minister also supported the organization of events to exchange experience, information, and technology, as these are “necessary to achieve the common goals”. At the same time, he believes that entrepreneurs should be the drivers of such activities. It is their participation that will give impetus to a dynamic and multilateral cooperation.
Vladimir Padalko, Vice President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, noted that it is necessary to develop cooperation not only at the level of large companies, but also to involve small- and medium-sized businesses. He added that it’s time to move forward in industrial cooperation and give priority to the digitalization of trade relations.
Samir Majoul, President of the Tunisian Union of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (UTICA) and Chairman of the Tunisian part of the Tunisian-Russian Business Council, said the enlarged meeting is a “sign of the high quality of relations and the desire to develop them”. He spoke about priority areas for potential investment in Tunisia, highlighting agriculture, processing industry, and pharmaceutical sector.
Tatyana Sadofieva, Chairwoman of the Russian-Tunisian Business Council, and Igor Morozov, Chairman of the Coordinating Committee for Economic Cooperation with African Countries (AFROCOM), also spoke about the opportunities for expanding cooperation between the countries.
The meeting was attended by Bechir Langar, Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Tunisia in the Russian Federation.
During the presentation part of the meeting, the participants explored the economic and investment potential of various sectors.
