Sergey Katyrin Met Ambassador of Nepal Janga Bahadur Chauhan

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation aims to further intensify business cooperation with Nepal, said Sergey Katyrin, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, at a meeting with the Ambassador of Nepal to Russia, Janga Bahadur Chauhan, on February 11.

In this regard, Sergey Katyrin noted that a serious reason holding back the development of bilateral business ties is the lack of information among companies and enterprises, especially small and medium-sized ones, about real commercial and investment opportunities in both countries, as well as about the rules and conditions of work in the relevant markets.

In his opinion, it is also necessary to intensify business exhibition activities at the most promising sites in both countries. "We are confident that with the help of our embassies and the honorary representative of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Nepal, Vladislav Dmitriev, we will be able to significantly increase the awareness of entrepreneurs in both countries. In this regard, we are also ready for broader cooperation with the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry," the head of the Russian Chamber emphasized.

Sergey Katyrin recalled that last year the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry held a business mission to Nepal, which included a delegation of entrepreneurs representing a wide range of industries. In particular, RusHydro established good contacts in Nepal, and its experience can be successfully used to organize water drainage and water treatment systems in Kathmandu, which is very relevant for the Himalayan capital.

“This mission caused a significant increase in interest in establishing business ties between Russian regions, in particular, in September 2024, a business mission from the South Ural Chamber of Commerce and Industry visited Nepal,” the President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry said.

During the conversation, the topic of opening direct flights between Moscow and Kathmandu was touched upon, which, according to the parties, would contribute to an increase in tourist flows in both directions.

The Ambassador of Nepal emphasized the important role of private business in the development of economic ties between the two countries. He extended an invitation to the RF CCI delegation to participate in the Nepal International Economic Summit (Kathmandu, March 2–3, 2025). According to the Ambassador, this event will help Russian businesses establish useful contacts in the country’s political and economic circles and present their business proposals at the highest level.

The meeting was also attended by Chamber's Vice President Vladimir Padalko and Chamber's External Relations Department Director Ilya Nesterov.

Nepal Ambassador to Russia Janga Bahadur Chauhan is a graduate of Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (Lumumba University), with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from RUDN University (1981). He speaks Russian and is a translator of Russian literature into Nepali.
