Presentation of Trade and Economic Opportunities of Pakistan at the Chamber of Leningrad Oblast

Any activity related to trade is what unites Pakistan with the Leningrad Oblast. The development of relations in this area inspires optimism, because the dynamics of trade turnover is constantly growing. We, as the largest business association in the region, have been successfully interacting with Pakistani entrepreneurs for a long time. Executive Director of LOTCI Igor Muravyov spoke about this at the presentation of opportunities for trade and economic cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

The Minister of Trade and Investment of the Embassy of the Republic of Pakistan, Mr. Muhammad Shaukat Hayat, noted that last year the trade turnover of the two countries for the first time exceeded $1 billion: exports amounted to $782 million, imports – $289 million. Pakistan wants to expand bilateral cooperation with Russia in the areas of energy, trade and investment.

In the structure of Russia's exports to Pakistan, the main share of supplies falls on food products and agricultural raw materials, metals and products made from them, mineral products and chemical industry products. In the structure of Russia's imports from Pakistan, the main share of supplies falls on textiles and footwear, food and agricultural goods.

In addition, the countries express mutual interest in joining the Memorandum of Understanding on the creation and development of the international transport corridor "Belarus - Russia - Kazakhstan - Uzbekistan - Afghanistan - Pakistan", as well as in signing memorandums of cooperation in the field of railway transport and in the field of transport and transit “on the sidelines” of the International Economic Forum “Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum 2024” in May of this year.

Let us recall that the Leningrad Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry held a business seminar, Doing business with Pakistan, back in February 2023, during which the parties discussed possible options for cooperation. Currently, relations in the customs and transport industries are developing between the countries. The creation of new logistics routes and the simplification of procedures associated with transportation, as well as the delivery time of goods, is ensured through the implementation of an intergovernmental agreement on road transport.
