The First Pakistan-Russia Trade and Investment Forum

On October 1 the first Pakistan-Russia Trade and Investment Forum Held in Moscow.

The organizer was the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry. The delegation was headed by Pakistani Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan. It included high-ranking government officials and business and industrial leaders representing about 70 Pakistani companies. Fyodor Degtyarev, President of the South Ural Chamber of Commerce and Industry, took part in the forum.

The program included a plenary session and B2B meetings between entrepreneurs from both countries. According to information from open sources, today companies from Russia and Pakistan launched a barter trade mechanism. An agreement on this was signed on the sidelines of the forum in Moscow. The Russian company will export chickpeas and lentils in exchange for tangerines and rice from Pakistan.

Deputy Commerce Minister of Pakistan Nasir Hamid, commenting on the deal, called it a "historic moment." He noted that the countries are now "experiencing certain difficulties in making mutual payments" and expressed hope that the barter trade that has started will expand against this background.
